first attempt at humanizing Idra. I’m happier with this design than I expected to be, though I’ll probably be changing some things around. I need to decide on a wardrobe for her too.

when my girlfriend saw me drawing this, she commented on her “lesbian hair.” I honestly didn’t mean for her to come out looking so butch… not necessarily a bad thing, just not something I really associated with her character…. makes the fact that she lives with another girl more suspicious I suppose.

(several iterations ago she had a male fiancee, but he has since been cut from the story. I haven’t put the slightest bit of thought into her taste in romantic partners since. that being said, if she ever dated her roommate Sal, i can’t see that ending in anything but disaster, possibly homicide)

an attempt at hammering out what my characters look like, now that i’ve decided to make them human(oid, technically, since they have elf ears + horns). this is varien, who tenuously holds the title of “main character.” this is meant for practice more than anything and isn’t polished.

i was going largely for color with this, and on that front i’m pretty happy with it. she is supposed to be rather pale and cool-colored, and the horns aren’t meant to stand out much against her hair. ((all my characters have horns for convoluted plot reasons))

in terms of facial structure, I was going for this: narrow, triangular face; deepset, wide eyes; long, narrow nose, rounded tip; high cheekbones; thin lips; reasonably strong chin. she’s in her early 20s, and is meant to be considered somewhat attractive by conventional standards. she doesn’t look exactly right but it’s much closer than my other attempts have been.
